Microsoft closed its big hardware event on Ask Me What You Want (2024)Wednesday by unveiling the Surface Neo, a long-rumored foldable tablet.
The book-sized tablet features two separate Gorilla Glass screens. Each side is 5.6mm thick, featuring the "thinnest LCD that's ever been created." The Surface Neo also features a magnetic Bluetooth keyboard and stylus that both charge wirelessly.
A 360-degree hinge enables a number of different combinations. The Neo can function as a tablet or laptop, but is even easier to carry than the Surface.
The Surface Neo boasts a new version of Windows 10X, designed specifically for dual-screen devices. One of the new options includes "spanning," which enables the user to either keep an app on just one of the two screens or "span" it across both screens.
There are other helpful features, like opening links in emails on the second screen while keeping your email on the first screen.
And then there's the Wonderbar, which appears when the magnetically attached keyboard is put on one of the screens. It's not just another Touch Bar, though; it offers more functionality, including a touchpad. It can also stream video to the Wonderbar while keeping the main screen free for work.
Not much about the insides was revealed other than the fact it runs on an Intel Lakefield Processor that's designed with dual-screen devices in mind.
There's also no word on the price, but we've got a while: the Surface Neo won't hit stores until the 2020 holiday season.
UPDATE: Oct. 2, 2019, 6:54 p.m. EDT Corrected a note on the Intel Lakefield Processor.
