At an event known for honoring impressive women, advertisement eroticizing male bodies the 26th annual GlamourWomen of the Year Awards made sure to recognize a man: Bono.
SEE ALSO: Everything women stand to lose to President TrumpThe U2 frontman was honored with the women's magazine's first Man of the Year award Monday night in Los Angeles. The award recognized the Irish singer's work on gender equality.
In his acceptance speech Bono said, "There is nowhere on Earth women have the same opportunity as men...And unless we address this problem -- both men and women together -- our world will continue down this misogynistic, violent and impoverished path."
When Bono earlier this month was announced as an award recipient among many influential females (like Olympic gymnast Simon Biles and International Monetary Fund director Christine Lagarde) the online reaction included confusion and anger. However, Glamourjustified the decision, explaining that men need to be included in the fight for gender equality and other issues.
In his speech Bono acknowledged that the award seemed "a bit ridiculous." He even read some mean tweets from people upset he was an honoree. He said this particular tweet mocking his glasses was his favorite.
Sure, Glamour named Bono 'Woman of the Year' but in their defense, the Transitions lenses do make him look like a 75 yr old lady from Miami

He went on to discuss sexism and poverty and his work to combat them with his ONE Campaign. He wrapped up by offering this to Donald Trump: "So, I say to the president-elect: Look across to women. Make equality a priority. It is the only way forward. The train is leaving the station. Be on it or be under it."
In his #GlamourWOTY speech, Bono addresses Trump directly, "Make equality a priority."
