A PR representative for Rowling told Mashablethe writer "doesn't have a comment at this time", and refused to comment on her behalf regarding her Twitter account.
In the most recent update, a woman who claims to be the child's mother took to Facebook to say Trump didn't ignore her son:

The woman, named Marjorie Kelly Weer later disabled her account but Jonathan Bubar, who had previously posted that Marjorie is her cousin, confirmed to Storyfulthat she wrote the post that is being spread around.
UPDATE 2:26 p.m. PT: Rowling posted an apology for the tweets and said she would delete "previous ones on the subject" that were inaccurate.
